IamYOUareME #1 2004, digital print
IamYOUareME was a very special 3 month-long art project with a woman, Sofia, who has been suffering from schizophrenia for 21 years. For many years, she has tried all the medical options and drugs available for her conditions, but they didn’t make any significant improvements of her health and emotional conditions. Since she was so interested in sunlight and plants as well as participating art activities, we decided to do a photo project together. So we purchased a digital camera and I trained her to use it properly. In the project, she took 10 pictures everyday for the full three months in her daily life, while we regularly met together to check how this creative project affects her health conditions positively. Although it was hard to measure the difference in objective ways, after the project, she could live with less medicine than before, and became more emotionally positive in her ordinary life. The big mosaic image with the 500 pictures taken by Sofia is one of the results of the project.
