벽에 투사되는 사진 앞에 한동안 서 계세요. 소파에 앉아 계셔도 좋고, 옆 벽의 글을 천천히 읽고 계셔도 좋습니다. 당신의 모습이 그 곳에서 머문 시간만큼 보다 선명한 흔적으로 벽면에 투사됩니다.   


기나긴 지구의 역사 속에서 ‘인간’이라는 존재는 사실 돌아보면 참으로 미세한 작은 점에 불과 할 지도 모릅니다. 그 하찮은 점 안에서 인간은 종종 불필요한 우열관계를 만들어내고, 또한 삶의 순간 순간, 그 존재감을 재확인하고 끊임없이 기록으로 남기려는 욕망의 한 표현방식으로써 사진을 쓰고 있습니다. 일반적인 사진과는 달리 <Vestiges of Being>는 카메라 앞에서 가능한 오랫동안 멈춰서 있는 피사체만을 사진에 담아냅니다. 전신마비 중증장애인이나 파킨슨병을 앓고 있는 사람들은 이 사진기 앞에서 다른 누구보다도 가장 선명한 자신의 흔적을 남길 수 있습니다.


Abstract:
This photo is made by averaging other thousands of digital photos which are taken for numerous hours. To realize this technically, we photographed various appearances of the street for long time fixing the digital camera connected in real time in front of City hall where political demonstration occurs. Movement of protesters, combatant police units, and thousands of passersby is disappearing like smoke and fog.


Project Description
Many photographers have been doing making ventures to put flowing time into one image. Previous works with this purpose tried to express the accumulation of analogue time by exposing an camera iris for long period. This trial needs correct measurement  - prepared calculated amount of exposure and time - so it is impossible to accumulate flowing time of uncontrolled environment.

I would like to express continuous accumulation of unlimited time which is impossible to realize with existing technique. I regarded time as the object to be digitized, and I constructed database of enormous digital photos took in a spot consecutively. I would like to cohere flowing of time which is updated each moment through my artwork.

To realize this technically, we photographed various appearances of the street for long time fixing the digital camera connected in real time in front of City hall where political demonstration occurs. Movement of protesters, combatant police units, and thousands of passersby is disappearing like smoke and fog. For a long stretch of time, living things erase their vestiges. Left thing in this photo is not the demonstration group or government preventing this but the vestiges of flowing made by the river of human being though time.

Provided that, let's be the existence who see the object with different frame rate. Let's imagine the world we could see through the camera with the speed of 1 frame by 8 hours. And let's imagine what we should do to leave my shape in that camera. For the god of time controlling universal time, every living thing in this world like human being may be dim existence than fog. Human beings make efforts to leave their vestiges to be found favor with the god of time - but whether offsprings or achievements -. Human being who would be disappeared in the time from remote antiquity have considerable value for the god indeed? I want to believe that way. To leave the evidence, I want to photograph human being's own will, not physical body of human being.
